Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are non-surgical treatments that are used to restore wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented or sun-damaged facial skin, using a chemical solution to peel away the skin’s top layers. The peels include exfoliation of the skin, often in combination with the microdermabrasion treatments. The licensed aestheticians at The Center will determine the treatment that is best for you, such as a Micropeel or Micropeel Plus, based on your individual needs.

Micropeel

WHAT IS A MICROPEEL?

A micropeel is a light exfoliation of the skin - first you receive a physical exfoliation via one pass of the microdermabrasion. Next a glycolic acid is applied to the area in either a 30% or 50% formulation. After the desired effect is achieved, the solution is neutralized, and light moisturizers and sunscreen are applied.

IS A MICROPEEL RIGHT FOR ME?

A micropeel cannot be performed on patients with rosacea or sun-tanned skin.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT RIGHT AFTER TREATMENT?

Patients experience essentially no downtime following a micropeel. You may experience a mild burning sensation lasting a few minutes during the procedure. You may also be slightly pink for a few hours post micropeel and possibly experience slight peeling for a few days.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT OVER TIME?

Maximum results are noted after a series of treatments (4-6) over the course of a few months. Maintenance is required, which varies with each individual.

Micropeel Plus

WHAT IS A MICROPEEL PLUS?

A micropeel plus is a light exfoliation of the skin using salicylic acid-available in either 20% or 30%. The salicylic acid is applied to the face and neck, which sloughs off dead cells and debris while stimulating the skin's natural renewal processes.

IS A MICROPEEL PLUS RIGHT FOR ME?

A micropeel plus is great for patients with acne, sensitive skin, rosacea and/or environmentally damaged skin. Patients who are allergic to aspirin, have been on Accutane within the prior 6 months, or have sunburned skin cannot receive a micropeel plus.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT RIGHT AFTER TREATMENT?

Patients typically experience a mild burning sensation lasting for 2-3 minutes. You may experience increased warmth or sensitivity with exercising within 24 hours. Patient should also avoid hot tubs or saunas within the first 24 hours. Depending on your skin, you may or may not experience peeling. If peeling occurs, it usually begins 2-4 days post micropeel, lasting approximately 3 days. In addition you may experience mild itching/irritation.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT OVER TIME?

For maximum results, we recommend a series of 4-6 peels over a course of 2 months, then maintenance as needed.
