Fat grafting, also known as fat transfer or autologous fat transplantation, is a safe, natural, non-allergenic procedure designed to recontour your face and can provide definition to your cheeks and chin. Fat grafting is permanent filler that can be used to fill crease lines, such as nasolabial folds, that deepen as we age. It can also be used to correct facial deformities. Fat grafting is done by removing fat from a donor site (typically from the abdomen just below the umbilicus), processing the fat to remove excess fluids, and then reinjecting the fat just under the skin beneath the wrinkle. WHAT RESULTS SHOULD I EXPECT RIGHT AFTER SURGERY? Patients are up and around immediately following fat injections. Any discomfort following the procedure can be controlled with medication. Some swelling at the treatment site may last up to 36 hours. There may be some bruising, which can be covered with make-up. WHAT RESULTS SHOULD I EXPECT OVER TIME? Your initial injection should last up to 6 months. Over the first few months about 65% of the fat will be absorbed by your body. The remaining 35% will usually stay in place for years. For results that will last years, patients usually receive three or four treatments over a six month period. |
